Are palliative, hospice and end-of-life care the same?
While palliative, hospice and end-of-life care provide comfort and aim to improve the quality of life of those battling life-threatening illnesses, they are not the same.
Hospice care, also known as end-of-life care, happens when the goal is no longer to treat and help an individual recover from the condition, but to improve the quality of life and to support them as they live to their fullest for the remaining days.
Palliative care encompasses end-of-life or hospice care but is not only for people who are terminally ill. A person can be undergoing treatment to cure their condition while getting palliative care at the same time, to cope with the symptoms of the illness or treatment.
Is palliative care only needed in the end-of-life stage?
Many Singaporeans have the misconception that palliative care only occurs at the end of one’s life. However, palliative care can be provided regardless of one’s stage of illness and whether the person is receiving medical treatment.
A person can still receive palliative care while receiving treatment.

Yes, we do provide 24-hour home palliative care services. Two Homage Care Professionals will be scheduled for the visits, and care will be split into 12-hour shifts to support you and your loved one round-the-clock each day.
How quickly will I receive care support?
We aim to match a Care Pro to your requested visit within 2-3 days. For bookings made 1-2 days before the visit date, we will try our best to match a Care Pro.
Can Homage palliative care service be subsidised?
Yes, you can apply for a financial subsidy under the Home Caregiving Grant to defray the cost of palliative care services. Learn more about the eligibility criteria and application process via the Agency for Integrated Care website.
Are care packages available?
We have interim to longer-term palliative care packages with varying care durations so that you and your loved one can find a care package which best fits your needs and preferences.
