What are IV drips?
An IV drip delivers medications, fluids, nutrients and blood directly into the bloodstream, offering a quick and effective solution in diverse medical situations.
When individuals need immediate hydration or medication, like those with heatstroke, IV drips bypass the digestive system to ensure faster absorption and relief. Those with swallowing difficulties or severe eating disorders may use IV drips to receive essential nutrients. IV drip may also be administered during surgery to maintain optimal hydration, electrolyte, and blood sugar levels.
Conditions IV drips can treat
- Cancer (chemotherapy)
- Electrolyte imbalance
- Nutrient deficiencies
- Pain management
- Kidney injury
- Clinical shock
- Surgical support

Review from our customers
Nursing staff were helpful, patient, and understanding
“I contacted Homage for private nursing care at home for my mother who is a terminal cancer patient. The experience so far has been pleasant. The assessment was done by a very senior nursing professional and the nursing care staff has been very helpful, patient and understanding. Their way of handling my mother who has multiple insertions in helping her with her toilet needs, bathing and changing clothes etc was satisfying.
The Homage app works extremely seamlessly with very easy access to appointed care professionals, reports and summary of services provided. It is quite easy to create new requests as well.
Overall a good service experience!”

Good option for post-hospital care
“A very good option for an extra hand to care for elderly. My mum was discharged from hospital & she needed extra hands on top of my helper as she is bedridden. So far all carers are very patient and helpful. Will definitely need them in future and will recommend them to my family & friends.”

One of the best home care services!
“One of the best home care services! All the nurses are great and handled my loved one with care, they are detailed when taking care of my parent-in-law. They focus on hygiene and make sure my father-in-law stays active, which I feel very delighted by when seeing him in good hands.”

Top questions about IV Drip
Do IV drips have side effects?
IV drips are typically safe when administered by qualified healthcare professionals using approved ingredients and equipment. Side effects are minimal, but may include mild discomfort at the insertion site, bruising, or a metallic taste. More serious side effects such as allergic reactions or infections are rare but possible.
If you have any pre-existing conditions or allergies, make sure your healthcare provider is aware before receiving an IV drip.
How long does it take for an IV to drip?
The duration of an IV drip varies depending on the type of IV treatment. On average, an IV drip can last for as short as several minutes, or as long as 90 minutes. There are also individuals who need continuous infusion, which means that the medication needs to be continuously infused at a certain rate without a set endpoint.
What IV drip treatment packages do you offer?
From ad-hoc to round-the-clock care support, we have short- and long-term care packages tailored to different care durations and for varied care needs, so that you and your loved one can find one that best fits your care arrangements. Reach out to our Care Advisors at 6100 0055 for more details.
