Homage in National Day Rally: What Being Involved Means

by Team Homage

It was an honor for Homage to be mentioned at and attend this year’s National Day Rally. In the days leading up to it, the team was very excited and worked together to share our story. Now that the dust has settled a little, we want to share more on why we chose to work on Homage and what being a part of the rally means to us.

It starts with heartfelt experiences. Both my co-founder Lily and I have had personal experiences either being cared for by a senior and in turn, caring for them. With Homage, our heart and purpose are to give back to those who have given us so much.

Personally, I was cared for by a senior from the time I was a baby till I turned 10, when she passed away from cancer. It’s one reason why I work on Homage; it is my way of giving back to her, paying homage to and honoring her.

“With Homage, our heart and purpose are to give back to those who have given us so much.”

The National Day Rally has come to represent Singaporeans uniting to look to the future, by remembering how far we’ve come and highlighting the work ahead of us to solve our country’s challenge. In the first National Day Rally, Lee Kuan Yew said, “we will dedicate ourselves anew to consolidate ourselves to most important of all, to find an enduring future for what we have built and what our forebears will build up.”

This is why it’s so meaningful for Homage to be a part of the rally, more than a year from our launch.

There is a common perception that there is shame associated with aging and the health conditions that come with it, particularly in Asia. We want to change that.

We believe that aging does not need to come with dread and diminished well-being, and want to reshape what aging looks like for our family and loved ones in the future.

We are building Homage to empower Singaporeans to better prepare for and proactively manage aging and the conditions that can come with it. We want to help them remain in their communities and homes in comfort, dignity, independent and in control.

We are only at the start of our journey but want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported us so far.

“We want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported us so far.”

The Homage team works hard to help our seniors have a good quality of life. With seniors soon forming more than a quarter of Singapore’s population (that’s one million seniors), we know that a better and healthier future for them is significant to Singapore’s future.

We strive to continue providing quality care that we can trust our own families with. We will keep pouring our lives into building an enduring future for Singapore’s seniors.
