Tips for healthy festive feasting
As we go forth into this season of festive feasting, it’s perfectly fine to indulge ourselves a little and enjoy a good time with our loved ones for our reunion dinners. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t also keep healthy and pay attention to what we put into our bodies.
Here are some healthy tips for you to feast healthily as you plan for your reunion dinner.
Pay attention to what you are eating
When it comes to food (especially addictive snacks like bak kwa), we tend to get carried away as we eat and chat with our relatives. Be conscious of what you are consuming and if possible, do also request healthier options for your CNY meals. Most restaurants are able to accommodate special health requests such as substituting certain ingredients or using less oil or salt. You could also consider trying out the various Chinese New Year vegetarian menus to start your year off with a more healthful reunion.
Stay active
While we may be tempted to indulge, we should always balance this out with some exercises to keep fit and healthy. Encourage the whole family to go for a short walk after dinner, or engage in some games that can get the whole family moving! Alternatively, going for a hike or a bike ride around your neighbourhood can be a great way to stay active while exploring what Singapore has to offer. Do encourage your elderly loved ones to engage in some light exercise as well.
Avoid overeating
Most of us look forward to reunion dinners, which may cause some of us to inadvertently overcompensate for our anticipation and end up eating more than what we can actually stomach. Not only is this bad for your gut health, but it also leads to unhealthy eating habits. As we head into the season of festive feasting, pay attention to how hungry you actually are and remind yourself that it’s perfectly fine to stop eating when you’re full. Do remind your family members as well!
Conclusion
At the end of the day, it is important to do everything in moderation—especially when it comes to indulging during the festive season.
We also understand that the festive season can be a challenging time for many. If you are a caregiver and would like to lighten your load and relief yourself of your caregiving duties during this time, Homage can help.
Our trained care professionals are able to provide companionship, nursing care, night caregiving, home therapy and more, to keep your loved ones active and engaged.
