Home and Neighbourhood Activities

A combination of home-based activities and sessions centred around areas in our neighbourhood. This can include trips to markets and grocery marts, parks, shopping malls and exercise corners.

Curated Activities

Curated activities under music, culture, arts and nature bring your loved one to different locations across the city. They can include museums and nature park routes.

Gift Activities

Activities that can be gifted to your loved one. This includes pottery, cooking, music and other partner organised workshops

The interaction with nature, along with the greenery and sensory aspects of surroundings provides a rehabilitative environment for seniors and persons with dementia. 

Therapeutic Nature-Based Workshops with Edible Garden City

Experience the mental clarity and physical wellness that nature brings, by joining Edible Garden City’s therapeutic horticulture-trained farmers for a series of nature workshops at their urban farm!

 

Each session will begin with an immersive walk around the barrier-free accessible farm. This is followed by a stretching and mindfulness session before the horticulture therapy-trained educators lead your loved one through the thematic hands-on activity.

There are 4 different types of activities in the series and the session can also be attended individually. All the tools and environment will be adapted to welcome people of all abilities.

 

1. Basics of Gardening: Nature-based Wellness

Learn the basics of caring for plants, their properties, as well as how to use edible varieties like Indian Borage, Black Face General, Laksa and more! This workshop will include a hands-on session to propagate stem cuttings of chosen edible plants which can be brought home.

2. Wellness Teas: Design Your Own Homegrown Herbal Teas

Many plants that grow well locally can also be brewed into wonderful teas, some even with healing properties. Discover how to grow herbs and edible flowers to brew natural, non-caffeinated teas and bring home self-assembled tea blends to enjoy.

3. Art Jam: Using Natural Materials to Create Unique Art Work

Pick from earthy and intricate natural elements ranging from soil, sticks to dried leaves and flowers, grown at a farm in Queenstown. Arrange the plants as you please to form a unique art piece to decorate the home with!

4. Farm-to-Table: Nasi Ulam with Fresh Edible Herbs and Flowers

Ulam raja is one of Singapore’s heritage plants. With vibrant pink and yellow flowers, sprawling green leaves and an amazing taste, learn about the versatility of this plant, other types of herbs and flowers, and bring home your own dish of colourful and healthy nasi ulam to share.

These Care Experiences are aimed at helping seniors and persons with dementia connect with the outdoors, providing an opportunity to enjoy fresh air, sunlight as well as the flora and fauna.

 

1. National Orchid Garden - Singapore Botanic Garden

Nestled in the heart of Singapore Botanic Gardens is the National Orchid Garden, a paradise showcase of tropical orchids amidst a fine profusion of lush tropical greenery.

2. Ginger Garden - Singapore Botanic Garden

This walking trail will take you through the amazing world of gingers. Featuring over 550 species, varieties and horticultural cultivars of the plants of the ginger order (Zingiberales), get up close with this spice commonly found in our local dishes.

3. Monument Trail

Take a trip down memory lane from the mouth of the Singapore River, once the heart of Singapore’s commercial activity and entrepôt trade. The trail will lead you to several historical landmarks that tell the story of Singapore’s history, growth and development before ending at War Memorial Park.

4. Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park Walk

Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park is one of the largest urban parks in central Singapore, covering a full 62 hectares of unique waterways and greenery. With the Pond Gardens and River Plains, the park offers a variety of spaces for the community to enjoy.

5. Changi Point Coastal Walk

Stretching out for about 2.2 km along the coastline, this scenic route starts from Changi Creek in the east and end at Changi Point. While soaking in the rustic and natural ambience, catch sight of unique plant species and diverse wildlife as you stroll along the boardwalk.

Each session will begin with an immersive walk around the farm, light exercises before the thematic hands-on activity. Sessions can be attended individually. All the tools and environment will be adapted to welcome people of all abilities.
